A Halloween Classic

It's October 31st, which means one thing in our apartment – cozying up on the couch with a bowl of candy to watch my favorite Halloween flick, It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (it airs tonight on ABC at 8PM!). Whether you're planning on throwing a fab costume party, trick or treating, or watching   scary (or in my case, not-so-scary) movies, have a Happy Halloween!

A Madewell Wish List

Has anyone else noticed that Madewell has been killing it lately? I can safely say I'm in love with 95% of what's in stock right now, especially in their shoe, shirt & accessory departments. Their current assortment is definitely modern, but not too trendy – a perfect little update for my wardrobe. A few pieces I've wish-listed right now ...

P.S. Have you see the little updates I've made around the blog? :)

Happy {Pain au Chocolat} Weekend

This weekend, I'm leaving you with the simplest recipe that will hit the spot with your morning coffee. I served up these "pain au chocolat" treats to my guests last weekend and they were a huge hit and only take about 15 minutes to make.

+ 1 package refrigerated crescent rolls ( I used Pillsbury)
+ 1 package baking chocolate chips (dark or milk)

+ Preheat oven to 375 degrees (depending on your baking sheet)
+ Roll out pre-made crescent dough, adding about 6 morsels of chocolate to the top of each triangle
+ Roll into crescent shape and place on baking sheet
+ Bake for about ten minutes or until golden brown
+ Enjoy with coffee or a mimosa :)

See you next week!

P.S. in case you missed it, I posted about a deliciously deco cocktail & ensemble pairing over on long distance loving this week along with a few other talented ladies!

Guest Post: The Bee's Knees

Today I'm guest posting over on one of my favorite blogs, long distance loving! Pop over to the post for a delicious Prohibition era cocktail & ensemble pairing. Thanks for having me, {av}!

That Hat.

I left this beauty behind at Anthropologie this weekend and I can't stop daydreaming about it. I'm (generally) not a hat person so I couldn't justify the purchase, but somebody please go scoop this floppy fall hat up and wear it so I can live vicariously through you.

Happy {Birthday} Weekend

Oh goodness, it's the weekend already, is it? Not that I'm complaining – I'll be off celebrating my birthday this weekend! I'm keeping it more low-key than usual this year with dinner at a local restaurant I've been dying to try, followed by a "hair of the dog" bloody mary & mimosa breakfast. I can't wait to primp, eat and toast with some of my favorite people.

While I was gathering inspiration from around the web this week ( I know, sorry for the lack of posting  – I was feeling particularly uninspired), I came across these lovely links that I had to share:

No. 1 | Big Girls Small Kitchen, a new to me blog, has some delicious recipes for shrimp phyllo cups. I was so happy to discover this site because I've decided to jump head first into teaching myself how to bake and cook.
No. 2 | Have you seen J.Crew's new arrivals? I'll take one of each, please.
No. 3 | The ladies over at Camille Styles absolutely nailed it with their Hitchcock-inspired "The Birds" Halloween Party.
No. 4 | Remember my post about Edison Bulb fixtures? Well I finally got my hands on the perfect one which you can see right on my instagram (& purchase here). Next up, the installation!
No. 5 | Gaiam shared some interesting lifestyle, food & yoga tips for autumn on their blog.

Wishing you a very happy weekend! See you next week, same time, same place :)

Mood Board No. 1: Blush + Glimmer

Something I love to do is create mood boards. I love scouting & piecing together different patterns, textures and colors to create one cohesive message. Mood boards are, if I could choose, how I would start every one of my creative projects – it's so helpful to have a visual to share and refer back to, especially when working with clients and other creatives. They help make sure you're all on the same page.

On the flip side, they're also great when you feel totally uninspired. They make you pause and look for details, while focusing on a "bigger picture."

And so I present mood board No.1 (the first of hopefully quite a few!)...

Spooky Chic Halloween Cards

As a snail mail advocate & paper lover, I get so excited at the end of each year for holiday card season. Starting with Halloween haunts and rounding off with New Year's wishes, some of my favorite companies have come up with lovely designs for every end of year occasion. I'm excited to share my top picks with you over the next few months (I can't buy all of them myself!) in hopes you'll get out there and send some snail mail to your favorite people.

GLAM. My top pick (from Sugar Paper) is stylishly spooky. SWEET. Rifle Paper Co. always gets it right. The trick-or-treating line up is too cute to pass up. DIGITAL. Don't have time to use snail mail? Keep it green with this adorable option from one of my favorite sites, Paperless Post. PATTERNED. In my favorite palette, black & white via Mr. Boddington. CHEEKY. I'll take a Newt Julep, please (via Maple and Belmont). PRECIOUS. Okay, thank you Fat Bunny Press, for showing me what my future French bulldog will be wearing on Halloween. Don't you just want to squeeze him? BOLD. One of my recent favorites, Rocket Ink keeps it funky. RETRO. Cavallini & Co. brings back the classics ... and adds a little glitter.

Which is your favorite?

Newport, Rhode Island

A few weeks ago, I took a much needed vacation. I had been long overdue for some R&R – seriously, I don't think I'd had off more than 3 days in a row for over 2 years (although I did manage to squeeze in a mini trip to NYC this August!). So the boyfriend and I packed up and drove off to Newport, Rhode Island. It was romantic, relaxing and amazing, and I completely and totally unplugged. That's right – no instagramming, tweeting, Facebooking, emailing ... nothing. It was REFRESHING.

Our trip can be summed up in 4 parts: adventures, sunsets, wine & that jacket.

The Cliff Walk came highly recommended to us by friends – it was beautiful on the first day of fall ...
I couldn't get enough of the Rosecliff estate (aka where our favorite, The Great Gatsby was filmed) ...
Tried our first lobster rolls, and now we're hooked! ...
We had a few sunset picnics at Brenton Point ...
and watched some amazing sunsets at the wharfs while sipping & shopping ...
We tried some Newport-grown wine and toured a local winery ...

... and I picked up that perfect fall jacket at J.Crew (the one you've seen in just about every photo)!

It was the first weekend of fall, so the weather was perfect. Newport wasn't deserted, but it wasn't overly crowded (I highly recommend travelling there in September if you can!). And we were somehow able to fit in just enough but not too much shopping/touring/dining/adventuring so our vacation left us feeling rested, but inspired. Newport was full of that New England seaside town charm that I had hoped for, and we left with our first pumpkin of the year, some delicious wine & a new jacket that I've barely taken off since. All in all, a successful vacation, and a reminder how necessary it is for us to "unplug to recharge" every once in a while.

Have you been to Newport or taken any trips this year? Did you dare unplug?

Weekend Classics (Under $60!)

What are your plans for this weekend? I'm planning on grabbing morning lattes & shopping for some apartment pieces with my guy, working on an exciting new project & heading to a yoga class/wine tasting event outside the city with a friend ... and maybe sneaking some birthday outfit shopping in the mix. It's looking like a fun-packed weekend, so I can't complain, but I'm also hoping to get in some down time snuggling on the couch reading one of my favorite books ...

What's on my shopping list this weekend? Just some of the classics:

Delicious Latte from La Colombe Torrefaction, $3.50
J.Crew Peplum Top, $58 (at the top of my current wish list)

What are your weekend plans?

"Things to worry about"

Just a quick little pick-me-up post today. If you're worrying, know that it will all come together :)

Splish Splash

I find rainy fall days spent inside pretty romantic and calming ... but journeying outside without proper rainy day gear, which I have admittedly done one too many times, can be a slight nightmare. Just in case you're planning on puddle jumping venturing outside today, a few of my favorite rainy day things to stay dry & cozy ...

Well Hello, October!

October is my favorite month of the year (probably not a coincidence since it's the month I was born). While I'm always a little sad to see September go, a month full of candy, crisp air & celebrations is a-okay in my book! To properly welcome the new month, a new downloadable desktop background ...

To download, right click on the image & open it in a new window.  Save the image to your computer and set it as your desktop background.

And some news ... For the first time ever, I've entered in a minted.com design challenge for wedding invitations. minted is an amazing, budget-friendly online resource for wedding invitations, stationery & other paper goods featuring works by indie designers.

In case you didn't know, I'm a wedding invitation & stationery designer by day. Designing and branding my clients' wedding days, businesses & personal correspondence is something that I really love to do, so I've decided to whip up some designs and give this challenge a shot. Right now, we're just in the selection & feedback portion of the contest, so you can check out my two designs over here, but I would be SO grateful if you wouldn't mind sharing the link and 'liking' the designs (if you like what you see, of course)!

I'm almost positive that the official voting process begins on the 8th of October, but I will keep you posted! Feedback on the designs is welcome :)

P.S. I also have another exciting project in the works, that should make a debut later this month so stay tuned!
